The senior principal civil engineer will lead Ecora’s civil engineering practice in Nanaimo, shaping technical direction, mentoring staff and expanding client partnerships across municipal, land‑development, transportation and industrial projects.
The role involves strategic oversight of major civil infrastructure projects from concept to delivery, managing planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk and multiple large‑scale projects while fostering collaboration with internal teams, clients and stakeholders.
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for major civil infrastructure projects from concept through delivery.
- Lead project planning, budgeting, scheduling, resourcing and risk management.
- Manage multiple large‑scale projects, coordinating internal teams, clients and stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement in project delivery processes and technical excellence.
- Oversee design and review of grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, road and municipal infrastructure systems.
- Ensure designs meet regulatory standards and integrate sustainable, innovative solutions.
- Review and seal engineering drawings, reports and technical deliverables.
- Build and maintain long‑term client relationships and pursue new business opportunities.
- Prepare proposals, fee estimates and marketing materials aligned with growth objectives.
- Represent Ecora at client meetings, community engagements and industry events.
- Mentor engineers, EITs and technologists, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
- Promote interdisciplinary coordination and knowledge sharing.

The successful candidate will hold a civil‑engineering bachelor’s degree, be a BC‑registered (or eligible) P.Eng., bring 15+ years of consulting experience, advanced proficiency in Civil 3D, StormCAD, WaterCAD and HEC‑RAS, and possess strong business‑development, communication and leadership skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Registered (or eligible) Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.
- Minimum 15 years progressive civil engineering experience, including consulting project management and leadership.
- Proven track record delivering large‑scale, multi‑stakeholder projects.
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, StormCAD, WaterCAD and HEC‑RAS.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian civil standards, municipal guidelines and regulatory processes.
- Demonstrated business development and client relationship skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation abilities.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to identify growth opportunities.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
