  • Attend technical meetings and client liaison sessions, contributing to method development and validation.
  • Ensure a safe, tidy and compliant laboratory environment.
  • Review analytical quality control (AQC) charts and data, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Identify and address non-conforming work, participating in audit close-outs and proficiency testing schemes.
  • Match resources to workload to ensure timely delivery of results.
  • Analyse samples to meet regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ISO standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead a team of 4–7 scientists, managing daily resource planning, performance reviews and team development.
  • Support training and development through CPD reviews and method-specific knowledge sharing.
  • Manage stock of consumables and advise on purchases.

  • Sound understanding of ISO 17025, ISO 5667 and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Minimum 5 years’ laboratory experience.
  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 or A-Level equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Strong planning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Demonstrated competence through CPD and analyst status.
  • Experience of analysis of water samples for inorganic contaminants using techniques such as ICP-MS, ICP-OES, IC-MS and SFA.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor and manage a team effectively.
