Utility Designer

Description

The Utility Designer creates precise construction drawings and designs using MicroStation and related software, emphasizing quality, continuous improvement, safe work practices and compliance with company policies and ISO standards.

• Design and draft construction drawings in MicroStation (or equivalent) to meet federal, state and local agency standards.
• Utilize software tools such as vBuild, Canvans, IDDS, ICGS Web and Leis.
• Collaborate with a team of drafters and designers under a project manager’s supervision.
• Follow company policies and ensure projects meet ISO compliance requirements.
• Achieve or exceed individual utilization targets set by the organization.
• Deliver assigned tasks on time, within budget and according to project scope.
• Compare field data to base plans to verify accuracy and consistency.
• Gather measurements, sketches, notes and photographs to support project documentation.
• Size and specify design requirements to satisfy project and regulatory standards.

Requirements

• Apply strong knowledge of Outside Plant Engineering, including fiber optic, copper cable, terminals and lite‑span systems.
• Hold a High School Diploma/GED and a valid driver’s license.
• Provide at least two years of relevant work experience with strong MicroStation proficiency.
• Prefer candidates with drafting fundamentals knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Suite, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat and Google Earth.
