The Assistant Chief Engineer, based on‑site in Atlanta, GA, is responsible for hands‑on maintenance of building systems to ensure safe, efficient, and proper operation of assigned properties. The role includes performing repairs, monitoring preventative maintenance, and administering projects, as well as stepping in for the Chief Engineer on a short‑term basis when needed.
Key technical duties cover electrical systems, HVAC equipment, life‑safety mechanisms, and miscellaneous building components. The incumbent must troubleshoot AC circuits, conduct routine inspections of chillers and generators, adjust control systems, and respond to fire alarm and emergency calls.
Management responsibilities involve supervising engineering staff, participating in hiring, handling disciplinary actions, preparing engineering budgets, monitoring budget variances, and overseeing vendor and contractor performance. The Assistant Chief Engineer also leads preventive‑maintenance programs and assists property management as required.
The position demands 24/7 on‑call availability, the ability to perform remedial tasks such as painting and unclogging drains, and compliance with the Cousins Way Manual.
