Systems Engineer

Description

• Preparing and maintaining system artefacts, technical specifications, and operational documentation
• Reporting to the Systems Engineering Team Leader, you will contribute to technically sound, customer-focused engineering outcomes by:
• Working collaboratively with software developers, hardware engineers, solution architects, and project managers
• Building strong working relationships with internal teams and customers
• Assisting with integration of traffic control systems, roadside field devices, communication networks, and smart motorway technologies
• Assisting with system architecture development, requirements analysis, and configuration tasks
• Supporting continuous improvement of tools, processes, and system performance
• Travelling to customer sites as required (local or interstate) for deployment or support activities
• Responding to internal and customer work requests, supporting troubleshooting and issue resolution
• Supporting system design, integration, testing, verification, and validation activities across STREAMS® and associated ITS systems
• Performing system configuration, upgrades, diagnostics, and fault investigation under senior guidance

Requirements

• Exposure to Intelligent Transport Systems, traffic systems, or other integrated control environments
• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering
• Understanding of cloud concepts or platforms (e.g., AWS)
• Understanding of software-hardware interaction, troubleshooting techniques, and system lifecycle practices
• Solid organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
• Knowledge of electrical or electronic engineering principles
• Experience with field devices, communication networks, sensors, or remote monitoring systems
• Experience with basic programming, scripting, or data analysis
• Foundational knowledge of systems engineering principles (requirements management, modelling, verification/validation, configuration management)
• Strong documentation capabilities, including analysis, reporting, and technical writing
• A genuine motivation to learn, grow, and improve processes and tools
• 2+ years' experience in systems engineering or a similar technical role
• Experience with client-server applications, basic networking concepts, and/or system integration activities
