Field Collector

Description

The Field Collector supports engineering by collecting detailed telecommunications information on‑site. The role involves validating existing OSP designs, documenting aerial, buried, and underground fiber networks, conduit, handholes, building entrances, and riser facilities.

• Identify, photograph, and document detailed information of facilities such as cables, poles, terminals, pedestals, handholes, and other outside plant infrastructure.
• Capture accurate measurements of attachment heights, span distances, utility structures, and distances to centerlines, property lines, and curb lines.
• Identify power and communication facilities and ownership on utility poles.
• Record bonding, grounding, guying, and anchor information.
• Deliver detailed field notes and photographs to the engineering team.
• Identify relevant obstructions to fiber placement and propose mitigation strategies.
• Read and interpret digital GIS maps, conduit records, and layout drawings.
• Utilize tools such as measuring wheels, height sticks, pull finder, GPS devices, hooks, and laser rangefinder.
• Operate electronic devices (iPad, iPhone, laptop) for file sharing and email.
• Update completion dates and job information in Insite.
• Walk up to 3 miles per day on various terrain.
• Follow OSHA, state, and local safety standards and work safely with or without supervision.

Requirements

• Understand OSP construction techniques.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in fiber‑optic/telecommunications construction.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of outside plant activities, fiber cable design, pole line construction, conduit system design, and make‑ready issues.
• Experience obtaining right‑of‑ways and easements and noting them in field notes.
• Ability to read as‑built prints and identify conflicts with existing OSP facilities.
• Familiarity with GIS, ESRI, and shapefile functionality.
• Ability to identify utility types and potential conflicts per regulatory standards (RUS, NESC, GO95, NEC).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; working knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, acceptable driving record, and ability to pass drug screen and background check.
• Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to learn new technical systems and tools and resolve problems within defined policies.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Extensive travel and on‑site work across multiple states, up to 100 % travel, including overnight stays.
• Work outdoors approximately 95 % of the time and in poor weather conditions.

The base pay range for this position is $19–$26.50 USD, reflecting the company’s commitment to pay equity and transparency.
