The Senior Automation Engineer (SAE) leads the Automation Engineering team at a fulfillment center, overseeing control-system maintenance, scheduling tasks and projects, and designing more efficient operational methods. The SAE serves as a primary resource for overall facility efficiency and works closely with the building’s maintenance leadership.
Key responsibilities include coordinating and mentoring automation engineers, collaborating with Operations, Engineering, and Safety to optimize material handling equipment, and maintaining and troubleshooting PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks, and motor drives. The role monitors MHE metrics, provides first-level escalation support, conducts failure analysis, and partners with vendors and leadership on new technology installations and capital projects.
Basic qualifications require a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related field) or 5+ years of equivalent experience, strong knowledge of electrical theory, robotics, controls, and automated equipment, and proficiency in programming tools such as RSLogix5000 Studio. Candidates must have hands-on experience with HMI, control networks, motor starters, VFDs, industrial electrical systems, SCADA, and Warehouse Management System concepts, as well as proven technical leadership and communication skills.
Preferred qualifications include expertise in systems controls design, programming, and integration, field service engineering experience with conveyors, sortation and robotics systems, and a history of providing remote technical phone support.
