* Serve as BC Hydro's "Owner's Engineer" by reviewing the work of external service providers for compliance to internal Engineering Standards, Design Codes, and engineering best practices.

* Occasional travel to remote work sites and supplier facilities may be required.

* Specify requirements and performance criteria for substation equipment such as: power transformers, instrument transformers, capacitor banks, STATCOM and other FACTS equipment, power cables, switchgear, circuit breakers, Gas Insulated Switchgear, disconnect switches, etc.

* Review and approve equipment drawings, conduct design reviews, and accept factory and field testing.

* Provide coaching, mentoring and leadership to junior staff.

* Develop procurement strategies, participate in strategic sourcing, vendor analysis and negotiation.

* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.

* Specialized knowledge of electrical power equipment (12kV to 500kV), including design, manufacturing, testing,

* Active participation in professional societies (e.g. IEEE, IEC, CSA, CIGRE)

* A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver's License: Class 5 In Good Standing.

* Proven leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.

* Must be registered, or eligible for registration, as a P. Eng with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC).

* Minimum of 4+ years of experience in a relevant field, including experience in North American electric utilities, industrial, or manufacturing environments.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills.

* Related experience in equipment procurement, power system planning, or protection and control design.
