About the Role

As a Procurement Category Manager you will play a key role in improving the ongoing performance of the corporate procurement team through a continuous improvement programme. You will lead cross‑functional teams across a portfolio of spend categories and be accountable for delivering procurement projects within those categories. Responsibilities include developing and leading a team to deliver savings opportunities, establishing demand‑management processes, and implementing innovative sourcing approaches that enhance service levels while minimising costs. You will provide strategic sourcing insight, build relationships with senior managers, prepare business cases and reports, and ensure procurement strategies align with HS2’s themes and goals. Additionally, you will advise on procurement legislation, promote best practice, and actively embed EDI in all activities. Employees must take personal responsibility for health and safety, adhering to the ‘Safe at Heart’ programme and safe working procedures at all times. • Lead cross‑functional teams to deliver savings and procurement projects across assigned spend categories. • Establish demand‑management processes and implement innovative sourcing to enhance service and reduce cost. • Provide strategic sourcing insight, prepare business cases, reports and committee papers for senior stakeholders. • Advise on procurement legislation, government policies and ensure compliance with public procurement regulations. • Promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all procurement activities.

What You Bring

The role requires strong stakeholder engagement, the ability to manage multiple work streams, and excellent report‑writing, commercial analysis and negotiation skills. Candidates should have a deep understanding of the supply market for corporate services, knowledge of public procurement regulations and government policies, and be members of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply or equivalent. Relevant experience includes leading procurement teams, handling large‑value complex contracts, cultivating supplier relationships, and delivering savings through effective category management. The post‑holder must act consistently with HS2’s values of Safety, Leadership, Integrity and Respect, and actively promote EDI throughout their work. Benefits

Location – Birmingham. The base salary ranges from £41,092 to approximately £48,344 per annum, dependent on skills and experience, plus a flexible benefits fund of 15 % of base salary which is fully pensionable.
