About the Role
The Substation Electrician role supports the reliability and safety of this high‑voltage network. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will install, maintain, diagnose and commission substation equipment, and you will be called on to perform high‑voltage switching during incidents and routine work. A structured training programme equips newcomers with the licences and technical skills required for high‑risk tasks. Day‑to‑day duties span the entire substation lifecycle, from asset upkeep to emergency response. You will champion safe work practices, produce safety documentation, lead crews when needed, and ensure accurate recording of activities in our systems, while also helping to develop apprentices and junior technicians. • Install, maintain, fault‑find, and commission substation assets • Perform high‑voltage switching and respond to system incidents, including on‑call duties • Prepare safety documentation, lead crews when required, and log work in company systems • Mentor apprentices and junior technicians

What You Bring
Transgrid seeks candidates with a Certificate III in Electrotechnology (or equivalent), a solid grasp of the Australian Wiring Rules, and the flexibility to respond to after‑hours calls. A current driver’s licence is mandatory, and additional certifications such as an Electrical Supervisor Certificate are considered advantageous. • Hold Certificate III in Electrotechnology or equivalent trade qualification • Know Australian Wiring Rules and relevant standards • Current Australian driver’s licence • Desirable: NSW Fair Trading Electrical Supervisor Certificate or Contractor Licence • Desirable: Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams • Desirable: Understanding of substation secondary systems • Desirable: Familiarity with diagnostic testing techniques for substation equipment • Safety‑first culture with right‑to‑stop‑work provision
