Maintenance Mechanic

About the Role

Safety is the most important aspect of every Nucor job; candidates must demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. This includes compliance with PPE requirements, lockout/tagout protocols, and exercising stop‑work authority whenever hazards are identified. • Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on hot‑mill equipment such as roller tables, gearboxes, descalers, coilers, shears, and hydraulic systems. • Troubleshoot mechanical failures and implement solutions to minimize downtime. • Conduct daily inspections and accurately complete work orders and documentation. • Execute scheduled preventative and predictive maintenance tasks. • Assist with equipment installations, rebuilds, and overhauls. • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. • Participate in pre‑job planning, root‑cause analysis, and continuous‑improvement activities. • Collaborate with operations, electrical, and engineering teams to optimize mill performance. • Record maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment history in the CMMS. • Enforce safety policies, including PPE use, lockout/tagout, and stop‑work authority.

What You Bring

• At least 2 years of mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting. • Proficiency with hydraulics, pneumatics, drive systems, and alignment techniques. • Basic knowledge of welding, cutting, and rigging. • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and schematics. • Capability to work safely in a physically demanding environment and on rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime. • Prior experience in a steel mill. • Technical certificate or associate degree in mechanical maintenance, industrial technology, or related field. • Experience using CMMS for maintenance tracking.
