About the Role
The Automation Technician partners with Maintenance and Production teams to ensure safety while maintaining and optimizing manufacturing processes. Responsibilities include applying engineering principles and algorithms to troubleshoot and improve equipment, developing future improvement plans, and supporting the integration of robots into custom‑designed cells and fabrication processes, often requiring work beyond normal business hours and a flexible schedule. Safety is the top priority at Nucor; employees must consistently initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards throughout all activities. • Install, maintain, and upgrade automation systems at key production points. • Troubleshoot servos, sensors, and control components. • Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and robotic systems. • Attend automation, robotics, and equipment supplier training. • Demonstrate and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.

What You Bring
• Degree in STEM field or equivalent experience. • Diverse background in PLCs, HMIs, and industrial controls. • Ability to travel for training and alignment with other NTS sites. • Minimum 2 years industrial maintenance experience. • Understanding of networking tools, standards, and electrical schematics. • Basic knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems. • Experience with Siemens and Allen‑Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and drives. • Robotics experience. • Knowledge of Profinet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, and Modbus communication protocols. • 1–2 years PLC experience. • 2–3 years manufacturing environment experience. • Strong grasp of maintenance processes and electrical principles.
