About the Role

As a Senior Project Manager you will lead Rail Systems projects through specification, tendering, procurement and delivery, overseeing design, construction, testing and commissioning of track systems such as slab track, switches and crossings, and long welded rail. You will be responsible for delivering contracts on time, within budget, scope and quality as HS2 moves into the design phase of these transformational projects. The role supports one or more Heads of Delivery or Client Directors, monitors change impacts, provides robust reporting, develops and maintains project plans, and ensures risks are mitigated. You will coordinate matrixed teams, manage package contractors, integrate the project with other HS2 and Network Rail initiatives, and drive solution development, cost estimating, logistics and governance under an NEC3 contract. Applications are assessed solely on CV content, which is anonymised at the first stage to remove bias; ensure your CV evidences the criteria outlined. • Provide project management support to Heads of Delivery or Client Directors for allocated projects. • Support the successful delivery of Railway Systems objectives. • Interface with relevant Railway Systems stakeholders as required. • Monitor and manage scope and cost changes, escalating issues when necessary. • Report project progress to the Head of Delivery and programme forums on a routine and ad‑hoc basis. • Develop, maintain and analyse project plans to identify and mitigate delivery risks. • Identify and implement actions to address potential milestone slippages, escalating issues as needed. • Coordinate matrixed team members, agency staff and consultants to meet the agreed schedule. • Manage package contractors to ensure delivery on time, within budget, scope and quality. • Integrate the project with other HS2 and Network Rail initiatives. • Lead solution development for the named delivery projects. • Provide controlled input to client cost estimates, logistics, key milestones and safety targets. • Manage assurance and governance processes across the delivery projects. • Execute duties under an NEC3 contract. • Promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in all work.

What You Bring

Candidates must demonstrate advanced APM project‑management competence, strong problem‑solving, decision‑making and influencing skills, and the ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholders. A solid understanding of public procurement, contract structures, risk and schedule management, and the technical scope of HS2 rail systems is required, alongside a relevant degree or equivalent experience.

Benefits
