Tasks

-Conducts detailed regulatory analysis of critical regulatory state issues. -Lead and manage projects, facilitate meetings, and prepare exhibits and testimony to support regulatory initiatives. -Identifies and leads activities to drive continuous process improvements. -Know, understand and effectively implement the elements of the strategic plan and tie those strategies to the operation, roles and goals of the department. -Know, understand and effectively implement policies, procedures, agreements, payroll, benefits, procurement, initiatives, budget, programs, and the like. -Own the end-to-end preparation and development of the communications on issues critical to advancing American Water’s regulatory initiatives. -Prepares communications that respond to requests from commissions or comply with regulatory needs resulting from previous orders. -Provides technical solutions and analysis on national issues. -Advocate for favorable regulatory outcomes through strategic engagement and messaging. -Facilitate and promote regular interactions between Company representatives and regulatory stakeholders. -Lead training initiatives as assigned for Regulatory Services teams and State Regulatory Leaders (e.g.: modelling, planning, and any other regulatory related areas) -Delegate, lead, guide and direct work of teams and individuals to support strategies, initiatives, goals, policies, procedures and emulate them in your daily performance. -Exercise full latitude for independent judgment in a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment. -Interact with staff, colleagues, constituents, collaborators, and stakeholders across the organization. -Track and evaluate regulatory outcomes from jurisdictions the Company operates in that may impact the Company. -Collaborate with state teams to develop and execute initiative-focused communications with regulatory stakeholders. -Work cross-functionally to ensure alignment and consistency in regulatory messaging and initiatives. -Operate within the department work including understanding systems, procedures, processes and how the department fits into the unit, division, and overall business design to which it belongs. -Supports the development of relationships with key regulatory stakeholders to facilitate communication of objectives important to the Company. -Ensures regulatory communications are appropriately retained and categorized on the regulatory SharePoint site. -Drive relationships, build trust, work to support employees, managers, direct reports and department heads to ensure a positive, predictable Employee Experience that emulates the values of the company. -Know, understand and comply with the law, ethics and corporate citizenship behavior regarding employment, benefits, safety, the law and ethics and compliance. -Develop, recruit, and build a collaborative team that strives to achieve goals that support strategies. -Proactively educates key regulatory leaders on regulatory challenges and collaborates with state teams in developing strategic responses. -Represent the Company in external meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagements as needed. -Provides research and comparative analyses of complex public utility issues, trends and best practices from jurisdictions across the country. -Develop responsive strategies to address regulatory challenges and opportunities -Prepares written and oral communications strategies to advance regulatory initiatives. -Mentor and guide less experienced colleagues in regulatory strategy and stakeholder engagement. -Promote effective communications of key regulatory initiatives at industry conferences and forums. -Support the development and maintenance of strong relationships with key individuals in regulatory agencies and trade organizations to position the Company for positive interaction with these organizations. -Direct, manage, evaluate, and hold a team of employees accountable to achieve short-and-long-term goals. -Participate in and assess the effectiveness of regulatory communications and strategies. -Educate state regulatory leaders on emerging regulatory trends and collaborate on state-specific strategies. -Provide/Present recommendations and/or conclusions to Executive Management, ELT and other outside stakeholders based on the analyses. -Involved with recruiting, acclimating, assisting, developing and mentoring other lesser experienced professionals within the department and potentially across functions. -Identify and advance critical regulatory initiatives that support the Company’s objectives. -Prepares and reviews presentations to consistently articulate company initiatives and goals.

What You Bring

-Up to 70 % -Seasoned professional with a minimum of 6 years prior experience in the utility industry and/or shared service or multi-company corporation -Bachelor's degree in, finance, economics, accounting, business or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. -Know, understand and effectively implement managerial principles such as collaboration, innovation, strategy, communication, transparency, and predictability.
