The Role

Tasks

-Collaborate with survey and estimating teams to confirm design accuracy and data alignment. -Manage GPS equipment software updates, data backups, and calibration consistency. -Operate GPS-enabled heavy equipment (dozers, excavators) safely and efficiently on active job sites. -Work closely with superintendents, project managers, and survey leadership to ensure GPS data aligns with construction objectives. -Serve as the company’s GPS and machine control subject matter expert. -Support operators and foremen in setting up and running GPS and machine control systems. -Troubleshoot issues with Leica, Trimble, and Topcon systems and coordinate with vendors for advanced support. -Train and mentor field teams on best practices for GPS setup, data management, and efficient operation. -Assist in developing and standardizing GPS procedures and field checklists. -Provide feedback to improve efficiency and accuracy across field operations. -Load and maintain 3D models, localizations, and project control data. -Verify grades, slopes, and elevations against plans and digital models. -Perform daily GPS setup, site calibrations, and control checks to ensure accuracy.

What You Bring

-Strong communication skills — able to train, coach, and collaborate with field personnel. -Basic IT proficiency (smartphone/iPad for reports, data uploads, and equipment tracking). -Minimum 3 years of heavy civil construction experience as an equipment operator (dozer or excavator). -OSHA-10 certification (or ability to obtain). -Additional training in GPS or survey technology is a plus. -Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or model files is a plus, not required. -Understanding of grades, elevations, and digital model interpretation. -Technical troubleshooting ability and a desire to continually learn new systems. -Proven experience operating with GPS or machine control systems (Leica preferred; Trimble and Topcon also valued). -High school diploma or equivalent required.
