Tasks

-Investigate the site before bid, identifying waste area, borrow area, and dump sites. -Provides technical support to personnel preparing estimates for assigned bids. -Prepares estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work; prices work items. -Participates in project hand-off meetings; attends meetings with suppliers and subs as needed. -Reviews and incorporates historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc., into unit and man-hour figures. -Ensures all working documents and data are maintained to back up estimate figures. -Reviews design options and recommends the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials. -Uses historical unit price and productivity data. -Participates in presentations to clients (if required). -Investigate value engineering options. -Review all pricing with the Preconstruction Lead. -Determines critical path schedule and sequence of work. -Reviews proposal specifications and drawings and attends pre-bid meetings, etc., to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimate. -Visits project sites to observe construction methods. -Maintains files of working documents as a backup for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers. -Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction. -Reviews terms and conditions of subcontractor and vendor quotes; serves as liaison with subcontractors and vendors during the bidding process.
