The Role

Overview

Oversee safe operation, maintenance, and repair of dredge vessel systems and crew.

Tasks

-Assign engine room personnel to perform regular maintenance and repairs to pumps, motors, diesel engines, and other equipment on the dredge and attending plant -Ensures vessel and operational compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory agencies of assigned equipment and personnel. -Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies. -Communicates with Port Engineer in regards to vessel repairs and maintenance -Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required. -Determine maintenance priorities -Track and order fuel, oil, and water -Keep accurate records in order to create engine room logs, inventories and maintenance history -Supervise repairs to ensure that they are performed in accordance with specifications and standards -Keep payroll records of engine room crew and review their performance

What You Bring

-Proficient skills in standard office software packages -Ability to work 84-hour work week -Supervisory experience preferred -Merchant Mariner Credential (preferred) -Regular, reliable attendance -This position requires fluent use of the verbal and written English language and understand hand signals -Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment. -Willingness and ability to travel as required -5+ years on a hopper dredge and/or qualified engine room experience preferred -Work productively and meet deadlines timely -Ability to live aboard vessel for full rotation -Driver’s license -Complete Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and or Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA)
